In all its color iterations, the composition features another playful visual constellation in the form of two duplicated images of a seal. Seen from afar, the composite image almost resembles a yin-yang symbol split down its central boundary. Seen up close, however, the composition is shown to be two identical seals swimming in circles, blending the animate into the inanimate.
The original photograph was taken at an aquarium in Japan of leopard seals. "I wanted to signify the importance of companionship, and the balance that needs to exist between that," Chang recalls.
